Sharp Increase in Foreign Visitor Numbers in August Despite Third Wave
Despite the ongoing surge in the COVID- 19 cases in the country foreign visitor arrivals in August showed a steep increase.
A total of 5040 visitors arrived in the country marking an increase of 107% compared to July.
The relaxed travel restrictions allowing fully vaccinated travellers to enter the country via the Indian route is assumed to be the main reason behind the increased traveller numbers.
Since the country was reopened on the 21st of January 2021 a total of 24,377 visitors have arrived in Sri Lanka.
According to SLTDA data the main source markets were Canada, Germany and the UK, Pakistan and India.
