Could the Covid-19 Pandemic bring a positive change to the industry leading to a stronger recovery?
The exponential growth of the Sri Lanka Tourism Industry in the last decade has seen the expansion of the informal sector and over tourism in some segments which has resulted in diluting the value of the Sri Lankan tourism offering. Post Covid-19 developments such as the recovery of the formal sector with more international travellers opting for hotel properties in comparison to the more cost effective alternatives, surge in demand for SME hotels and resorts with travellers preferring less crowded options to maintain some form of social distancing, Increase in tourist travel routed through travel agents or DMC’s, increase in demand for wellness tourism, restructure of hotels to rework supply chain and internal management strategies and new innovation in the industry could prove beneficial for the industry leading to a stronger recovery.
