SriLankan Airlines Secures US$ 30 Million Savings per annum Through a Combination of HR Overhaul Measures
The national carrier SriLankan Airlines has secured a saving of US $ 30 million per annum through a combination of HR overhaul measures. Measures include maximum pay cut of 25% for three months for employees with salaries above Rs.100,000 per month and release of 400 contract and outsourced employees. The monthly salary bill of the national carrier is now estimated at $ 7 million. Ashok Pathirage, Chairman SriLankan Airlines states that so far no permanent employees have been laid off and the pay cut measures adopted by the airline is far more favourable when compared to those adopted by the private sector. The airline is also considering the implementation of a Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) aimed at reducing the the permanent cadre by 500 employees.
