Cabinet Approves 4% Interest Loans to Pay Tourism Industry Salaries
The Cabinet has approved a paper submitted by Minister Prasanna Ranatunga to issue loans at the interest rate of four percent for the payment of salaries of tourism sector employees.
Tourist hotels and guest houses registered with the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) by March, 2019 are eligible for this relief measure. The loans will be issued at a concessional rate for paying salaries of up to Rs. 20,000 each. The Minister said there would be a two-year moratorium for the repayment of such loans.
The following relief measure have also been approved:
- Loan facilities extended for payment of salaries (up to Rs.15,000 each) for six months to employees of spas and eateries approved for tourists.
- Registered tour guides and drivers to receive one time allowance of Rs.20,000 and Rs.15,000 respectively.
- Registered tourist hotels to receive relief to pay water and electricity bills for period of 01 March – 31 Aug 2020 in 12 installments.
