Central Bank Extends Tourism Industry Debt Moratorium
The tourism industry which has been severely impacted by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has been given additional support with the Central Bank extending the debt moratorium by a further nine months until June 2022.
Despite Sri Lanka re-opening borders on 21 January 2021, tourism industry has continued to struggle, due to multiple waves of the COVID-19 pandemic in Sri Lanka as well as travel restrictions in source markets.
The ongoing vaccination drive, along with announcement of new flights by several international airlines, have been welcomed by the industry.
However a full tourism recovery is not expected until next year or early 2023.
