Continuous Support Extended to the Tourism Industry by the Government, Hailed by THASL
Sanath Ukwatte, President, The Hotels Association of Sri Lanka (THASL), thanked the government for extending the debt moratorium for tourism industry related businesses by a further 6 months. He also stated that more assistance was required by industry stakeholders to survive the ongoing pandemic which has severely affected the tourism sector. As per a survey conducted by THASL 80% of hotel owners feel that moratoriums alone will not be sufficient to survive this crisis period. The ongoing travel restrictions, delays in introducing vaccine passports and the slow vaccination drives are expected to slow tourism recovery.
