Decline in Remittances due to Drop in Tourism Earnings
With the suspension of passenger flights to Sri Lanka from mid March onwards due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic cumulative tourist arrivals remained at 507,311 during the first five months of 2020 in comparison to 945,377 for the same period in 2019. Earnings from tourism also recorded a drop of 46.3% for the first five months of 2020 compared to the corresponding period in 2019.
