Prasanna Ranatunga Assumes Duties as Minister for Tourism
Prasanna Ranatunga assumed duties as the Minister for Tourism at the Tourism Ministry yesterday. He stated that the cabinet approved government relief measures which provides an allowance of Rs. 20,000 to tour guides and Rs. 15,000 to tourist drivers affected by COVID-19 which was limited to Rs.10,000 during the election period as directed by Election Commission will be resumed with vigour and all measures will be taken to ensure that the government approved relief flows through to those adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in the tourism sector. He also stressed that once the repatriation of foreign workers is complete and Health Authorities gives the green light all measures are in place to reopen the Airport within 24 hours.
