Sri Lankan Migrant Workers in Maldives Could Benefit with the Country Reopening its Borders to Foreign Visitors in July
Omar Abdul Razzak, High Commissioner of Maldives stated that many Sri Lankan migrant workers attached to the hospitality sector in Maldives who have been laid off due to the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic could benefit with Maldives scheduled to reopen its border on July 15. According to Foreign Ministry statistics, there are between 15,000 – 20,000 Sri Lankans working in Maldives with about 75% being impacted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With Maldives slated to reopen its borders in July the government of Maldives expects the tourism sector to return to normalcy soon.
