SriLankan Airlines Envisions Following in the Footsteps of Emirates in Making Sri Lanka an International Transit Hub
SriLankan Airlines Chairman, Ashok Pathirage, envisions making Sri Lanka an International Transit Hub by mirroring the model followed by Emirates in Dubai. He stated that the airline has been having difficulties in the past 10 years, and now with the ongoing global pandemic the hopes of leading the airline’s transformation into a major connector have come to a halt.
International Air Transport Association (IATA), predicts that international air travel will not return until the year 2024, resulting in airlines across the globe having to face many difficulties. Although the airline has had a few setbacks since the global pandemic, the Chairman of SriLankan Airlines and the team remain dedicated to growing the fleet up to 30%-40% in the years to come and reach the goal of becoming one of the major connectors in the future.
