UK B117 Variant, the Most Prevalent During the Third Wave of the COVID-19 Pandemic
Dr. Sudarshini Fernandopulle, State Minister, Primary Health Care, Epidemics and COVID Disease Control confirmed that the UK B117 variant was identified as being the most prevalent during the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Health Authorities also warned that the Indian variant has also been detected in one sample collected from a quarantine center, and poses a risk of the Indian variant also spreading in society.
At present all precautions are being taken to prevent the spread of the Indian variant and air travel between India and Sri Lanka has been suspended.
