Training Program
Selected candidates will undergo an intensive three-month training program under the mentorship of our qualified and experienced senior guides. The program is designed to develop your skills through a combination of theoretical and hands-on experiences, ensuring you are well-prepared for your role as a guide.
Training Components:
- Guided Safari Drives: Accompany senior guides on safari drives to gain practical knowledge of wildlife behavior, park navigation, and guest interaction.
- Nature Walks: Participate in guided nature walks to deepen understanding of flora, fauna, and ecosystems.
- Online Lectures and Learning Modules: Gain foundational knowledge through digital resources and virtual lectures on ecology, environmental conservation, and customer service.
- Assignments and Presentations: Complete assignments and deliver presentations to demonstrate your learning and share insights.
Progression and Probation
Upon successfully completing the training program, trainees will enter a short probation period. During this time, responsibilities will gradually increase, and you will begin to independently guide and host guests.
Key Responsibilities
As a trainee guide at Leopard Trails, your role will involve the following duties:
- Leading Guided Safaris: Escort guests on safari drives through Yala and Wilpattu National Parks, providing insights into wildlife behavior, park history, and conservation efforts.
- Conducting Nature-Based Activities: Organize and lead additional activities, including bush walks and excursions to nearby attractions of ecological or cultural significance.
- Guest Welcome and Orientation: Welcome guests upon arrival, conduct orientation sessions, and ensure they are well-informed about their safari experience.
- Hosting: Actively engage with guests during meals and bar times, ensuring a warm, hospitable environment.
- Guest Services: Attend to all guest requirements, from check-in to check-out, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable experience.
Candidate Profile
Ideal candidates will possess the following qualifications and personal attributes:
- Language Skills: Excellent command of the English language is essential for effective communication with international guests.
- Educational Background: A qualification or partial qualification in Environmental Studies, Zoology, Botany, or a related field from a recognized institution is preferred.
- Passion for Wildlife and Storytelling: A genuine interest in wildlife, with a knack for storytelling that can captivate and engage guests.
Outdoor Enthusiast: Enjoys spending time in nature, is physically fit, and comfortable with outdoor environments and physical activities.
