E-Distribution

Channels

Hello and Welcome!
We learnt about distribution, and today we are going to learn about Channels. Let's get right to it!

Channels or OTA, also known as Online Travel Agencies, are online companies or websites that allow your customers to book travel related services directly through the internet.

Here's a why customers use these websites:

  • Easy comparisons
  • Convenient bookings
You can add in information such as photos, descriptions, room rates on these OTAs free of charge and pay a commission of 3% - 20% on every booking in return. Another reason to use OTAs is that it provides your business with added online visibility.

It is important to recognize OTAs as distribution channels that promote your business rather than your competition.

We can use a channel manager to automate tasks such as updating room availability and rates too.

Now let's look into your OTA options. You can start with one, test it out and then use others depending on your business objectives and business type.

These are a few terminologies we need to know before we go further;
  • Host - Your business and staff
  • Guest - The customer
Here's a list of OTAs we could use; each has its own advantages and disadvantages.
  1. Agoda
  2. Airbnb
  3. Booking.com
  4. Expedia
  5. TripAdvisor
Now let's take a look at how you can use your own website directly. First you need to set up an online booking system that allows customers to directly and instantly book rooms using a software application either on your website or a third-party site. These can be set up by combining a booking system with a channel manager and property management system.

Here are two options we can use:
  • WordPress
  • Wix
Now that we've learned about OTAs and direct booking systems, we know the basics to complete this course, after which you will be able to select the method that suits your business best so that your customers can access your services easily.

We've got lots more to learn!
Let's go!
