Part of the Google search engine, Google Maps allows you to find places anywhere in the world. You can search by place name, street name, postcode or a place of interest such as a castle or lake.
How to use Google Maps
Use Google Maps on your computer, phone, or tablet to search, explore, and find your way around the world. On your computer, open Google Maps. On your phone or tablet, use the Google Maps appGoogle Maps. Simply type in the search box the name, address or postcode of the place you're looking for. Select the correct option from the dropdown list.Having found the place on the map, you can also ask Google for directions for either driving, walking, cycling or using public transport. Click Directions. Once you've provided your starting point, Maps will work out the fastest route - denoted in blue. Other routes will be coloured grey.
How to share directions with others
To send someone directions in Google Maps:- Open Google Maps.
- Search for the location and select Directions.
- When you're ready to share, click the menu next to Your location and select Share.
Get your business on Google Maps
Google Maps is the most extensively used mapping application worldwide and it is vital for the marketing of your business so that you can easily be found. While anyone can add your business - you may already be listed without your knowledge - it's important that you claim your business listing and create a profile with correct and full contact information and enticing photos.Google Maps is part of Google My Business and the way to claim your business listing is via your Google My Business account. This is also where you should add photos and information about your business. We described this process in more detail in our e-Marketing course.
