Wix is an example of a
sitebuilder
software that allows you to
easily build a website.
It uses a drag-and-drop editor to make website building as easy as possible. Wix makes use
of a tool called Artificial Design Intelligence to help you customise your site.
Note:
- Websites built with Wix or other sitebuilders can't be moved to another hosting provider.
- Although the free version has everything needed for a basic website, it does NOT allow you to link to your own domain. You will need a paid-for premium plan. Note that their smallest paid hosting plan also includes Wix advertisements, which is not recommended for a professional site.
Steps to build your website:
- Browse to Wix.com andsign up.
- Decide on the type of website you need.
- Select Wix ADI to start your website. You can edit it later with the Wix Editor.
- ADI works by asking various questions about your type of business, location and contact details. It uses this information to generate your custom site Select a design.
- Wix will now generate a website based on the information you have provided. It will include images that it considers to be appropriate - you can edit these later.
- The button at bottom right opens a list of options that will guide you to create your
full
website.
- Click 'Preview' at the top to view your site.
- Change the website design, colours, fonts, section layout as desired using the 'Show me how' option.
- Sections and pages can be edited or added as required.
- When you're done with editing, click 'Publish' in the top right menu.
- The next step is to connect your new site to a domain. The free Wix domain is useful for viewing your website while creating it, but not for permanent use - you should definitely use your own domain. For this you will need to upgrade to a paid hosting plan.
